Preventing Collisions Before They Happen
Tyretalk delivers powerful tyre safety education designed to help drivers understand one of the most overlooked factors in road safety — tyre performance.
“Partner support enables this life-saving knowledge to reach the young and inexperienced drivers who need it most.”
A Major Gap In Driver Education
Most young drivers are taught how to pass a driving test.
Very few are ever taught:
- How dramatically tyre performance affects stopping distances
- How tyre choice influences wet-weather vehicle control
- Why fitting lower-performing tyres can increase loss-of-control risk
- Or why modern safety systems rely entirely on tyre grip
Tyretalk exists to help close that gap.
The Hidden Road Safety Problem
Every vehicle relies on just four hand-sized contact patches with the road — its tyres.
Yet most drivers are never taught how dramatically tyre performance affects braking, grip and vehicle control.
As a result, many motorists unknowingly fit tyres that offer significantly lower levels of real-world performance, particularly in wet conditions or emergency situations.
In many parts of the tyre retail industry, motorists are guided towards lower-performing tyres because they are easier to sell or generate higher margins, rather than being properly informed about genuine performance differences.
For young and inexperienced drivers, this lack of understanding can significantly increase the risk of losing control.
Drivers aged 17–24 remain heavily over-represented in serious and fatal collisions, particularly on rural roads where wet grip, braking performance and vehicle stability become critical.
Yet tyre performance — one of the most important factors affecting vehicle control — is rarely included in driver education.
Real-World Evidence
Insights from collision investigation and insurance case reviews continue to highlight how frequently tyre choice appears within serious incidents.
One experienced UK collision investigator specialising in large-loss insurance claims reviewed approximately 350 fatal or life-changing collision cases over a five-year period.
The findings were striking:
- Around 90% of vehicles involved were fitted with low-cost budget tyres
- Many vehicles had mixed tyre brands or patterns across the same axle
- In the majority of cases, the worst tyres were fitted to the rear of the vehicle
These factors significantly affect vehicle stability and control, particularly in wet conditions or during sudden avoidance manoeuvres.
“While tyre choice is rarely recorded as the primary cause of a collision, the available grip from a vehicle’s tyres can often determine whether a driver maintains control or loses it.”
This highlights a major gap in driver education:
Most motorists are never shown how tyre performance affects real-world vehicle behaviour.
Tyretalk sessions are designed to close that knowledge gap.
The Opportunity
Tyretalk delivers engaging, memorable and eye-opening safety sessions that demonstrate the real-world impact tyre choice has on braking, grip, stability and collision risk.
The sessions combine:
- Technical tyre knowledge
- Vehicle dynamics expertise
- Real-world driving experience
- Insights from collision investigation
- Understanding of modern vehicle safety systems
Attendees quickly understand something most drivers are never taught:
Tyres are the foundation of every vehicle safety system.
ABS, traction control, stability control and modern advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) can only work effectively if the tyres fitted to the vehicle are capable of generating sufficient grip.
When drivers understand how tyres influence vehicle behaviour — particularly in wet or emergency situations — they make far safer decisions.
With partner support, Tyretalk sessions could be delivered nationally through:
- Colleges
- Universities
- Sixth forms
- Community organisations
- Automotive education environments
Helping reach thousands of young drivers every year.
Potential National Impact
Tyretalk sessions are designed to educate large audiences in an engaging and memorable format.
Typical delivery model
- Two sessions per day
- 30–60 attendees per session
- Up to 100 students educated per day
A partner supporting just one delivery day per week could help educate more than 4,000 young drivers every year.
National partnerships could allow Tyretalk to reach tens of thousands of drivers annually, helping reduce preventable loss-of-control collisions across the UK.
Why Partner With Tyretalk
Organisations that support Tyretalk become part of a meaningful road safety initiative focused on preventing collisions through education.

Supporting future automotive professionals
Helping improve tyre knowledge among future technicians, engineers and industry workers.
For insurers, fleet operators and organisations involved in road safety or driver risk reduction, supporting Tyretalk also represents an opportunity to help address one of the most overlooked contributors to serious collisions.
Reducing Preventable Collision Risk
Many serious road collisions are categorised as loss-of-control incidents.
In wet conditions, on rural roads or during sudden emergency manoeuvres, tyre grip becomes the critical factor determining whether a driver maintains control.
Yet most motorists have little understanding of how dramatically tyre performance can vary between products.
Tyretalk sessions demonstrate the real-world consequences of tyre choice — particularly differences in:
- Wet braking performance
- Cornering grip
- Vehicle stability
- Emergency handling behaviour
Why This Matters To Insurers
Many serious collisions involving young drivers occur in wet or loss-of-control situations where tyre grip becomes critical.
Tyretalk Safety CIC helps improve awareness of one of the most overlooked contributors to collision risk.

About The Founder
Tyretalk was founded by Ryan Cobley, whose career uniquely combines professional driving, vehicle safety training and tyre industry expertise.
Ryan spent more than 15 years as a professional motorsport driver and instructor, delivering advanced driver training at circuits including Donington Park and Silverstone while working with major vehicle manufacturers, Police, MOD and others
He later spent over 12 years delivering technical tyre training across the UK tyre industry, gaining first-hand insight into how tyre choices are recommended to motorists.
Through this experience he identified a major gap in road safety education:
Most drivers are never shown how dramatically tyre performance affects braking, grip and vehicle control in real-world situations.
Tyretalk was created to help close that gap.
Ryan is also an Official TyreSafe Road Safety Partner, supporting wider initiatives aimed at improving tyre awareness and road safety across the UK.
Explore Partnership Opportunities
Tyretalk is actively seeking sponsors, partners and organisations that want to support meaningful road safety education.
We would welcome the opportunity to discuss partnership opportunities, pilot programmes or demonstration sessions.
