Tyretalk: Helping Drivers and Businesses Make Safer, Smarter Choices
About Ryan Cobley
I’m Ryan Cobley, founder of Tyretalk.
My career across professional motorsport, driver instruction and the automotive industry has been driven by a lifelong passion for vehicles — but above all, road safety.
Early in my career, while serving as a Special Constable, I attended serious and fatal road traffic collisions and saw first-hand how small decisions can have devastating and irreversible consequences.
That experience fundamentally shaped my understanding of risk, responsibility and the importance of prevention.
Road safety later became deeply personal when my father-in-law suffered a severe, life-changing brain injury after being struck by a vehicle — reinforcing just how fragile safety on our roads can be.
Over the last 15+ years, I have worked as a professional motorsport driver and instructor, helping drivers understand vehicle behaviour, grip and control in demanding real-world conditions.
Alongside this, I spent more than 12 years delivering technical tyre and vehicle safety training across the automotive industry, including training linked to modern vehicle safety systems and driver assistance technologies.
Through this combined experience, one issue consistently stood out:
Most drivers are never taught how dramatically tyres affect vehicle safety.
Modern vehicles are equipped with increasingly sophisticated safety technology, but those systems can only perform as intended if the tyres fitted to the vehicle are capable of delivering the necessary grip and performance.
Tyretalk was created to help close that knowledge gap.
Today, Tyretalk delivers specialist tyre safety education designed to help drivers, students, organisations and industry professionals better understand:
- tyre performance
- vehicle grip
- braking and stability
- real-world vehicle behaviour
- and the role tyres play in preventing serious collisions
The aim is simple:
Helping people make safer decisions before critical situations occur on the road.

Changing the Way the Industry Communicates About Tyres
Industry Expertise
During more than 12 years as a Training Manager with one of the UK’s largest tyre wholesalers, I worked closely with tyre retailers and automotive businesses across the UK, delivering technical tyre training and supporting improvements in customer understanding.
Working directly within the tyre retail environment provided valuable insight into how motorists choose tyres — and how frequently purchasing decisions are driven primarily by size and price, rather than genuine understanding of tyre performance and safety.
My role involved helping retail teams build stronger product knowledge and greater confidence when explaining tyre options, vehicle suitability and real-world performance differences to customers.
Through technical training programmes and industry support, I worked with:
- independent tyre retailers
- national retail chains
- franchised dealer networks
- vehicle manufacturers including Volkswagen Group and Volvo UK
This experience highlighted a major issue that continues today:
Most motorists are never properly informed about how dramatically tyre choice can affect braking, grip and vehicle control.
That understanding became one of the key driving forces behind the creation of Tyretalk.
