I'm Ryan Cobley, founder of Tyretalk. My journey through the automotive industry has been shaped by a lifelong passion for driving, performance, and most importantly, safety. Over the years, I’ve combined real-world experience with a personal mission to help both drivers and businesses understand the critical role that tyres and vehicle control play in road safety.
What I’ve learned on the track, on the road, and in life has shown me that tyre education is not just important. It is essential.
Experience That Makes a Difference

Attending the scenes of fatal collisions caused by small driving mistakes gave me a deep understanding of how avoidable incidents can have devastating consequences. In many cases, a better grasp of speed, grip, and control could have changed the outcome.
15 Years in Motorsport as a Professional Driver and Instructor
Competing taught me how vehicles behave at the edge of control. As an instructor, I found that most drivers lack the knowledge of vehicle dynamics needed to stay safe. Skills like managing weight transfer, understanding grip, and planning ahead are just as important on public roads as they are on a race circuit.
Personal Tragedy
When my father-in-law suffered a severe brain injury after being struck by a car, my focus on safety became personal. His experience was a powerful reminder of what is at stake when drivers underestimate the importance of awareness and proper vehicle handling.
Tyre Safety Is Road Safety
Modern cars are equipped with advanced systems such as electronic stability control and automatic emergency braking. These systems are designed to save lives, but they only work if the tyres can maintain grip. Tyres are the single point of contact between the vehicle and the road. Poor tyre performance compromises every safety feature a vehicle offers.
At Tyretalk, I translate complex automotive principles into practical, real-world knowledge that anyone can understand and apply. Whether I’m speaking to a room full of industry professionals or members of the public, my goal is to help people make informed, confident decisions that improve safety for everyone.
Changing the Way the Industry Communicates About Tyres
During my 12 years as a training manager with one of the UK’s largest tyre wholesalers, I saw a recurring problem. Many tyre retailers had limited product knowledge and rarely explained the real-world safety differences between tyre options to their customers.
Through training sessions and technical coaching, I helped bridge this gap. I designed programs that elevated sales teams from basic product pushers to informed advisors. My work has supported independent garages, national chains, dealership networks, and manufacturers including VWG and Volvo UK.
By helping staff understand the critical safety role tyres play, we saw improvements in both customer satisfaction and team confidence.
